We found your music in 2020 from a single titled 'Mcdonalds.' Can you tell us about this release?
YUNG SKRRT
The song that kicked off the whole "Goofin" era where I was making quick tracks that made me laugh. When I made it, I got asked by my favorite producer to send beats for a huge project. When they didn't respond for 2 hours, I manically decided to go to McDonalds, went on Instagram live and was just screaming the idea over and over, got back home still live and recorded it all to a click track, no beat, then made the beat after. A crazy moment that everyone from Anthony Fantano, to T-Pain, to knxwledge reacted to and enjoyed thoroughly.
I think it’s a timeless song.
“It's the biggest song we have ever listened to on this channel”

Some of your songs are intended to be more comedic, while others convey more serious themes. How do you find a balance between producing comedic/non-comedic material?
YUNG SKRRT
When I made the first songs that had the comedic side, I dove in as hard as I could because I felt inspired to sporadically create and have people respond so strongly. Through that process, I found the "Float" style as shown on my Half Words 3 tape, and dove into that as hard as I could while also exploring the goofy side when I thought of new ideas. Then something unlocked in me when I started the Ascendant EPs, and the comedic side became far less important to me, as what I've been doing is the perfect form of everything. I've wanted to do with this project to begin with so I let it go for a while.
My new one Bingo is my first move back into the less serious idealism and it’s hard not to notice people reacting to that strongly, making me want to explore it more down the line.

Tell us about the visuals/track Amethyst...
YUNG SKRRT
Amethyst was a song I made from scratch on the stream, recorded some synths and reversed it, added guitars and live drum samples, and it fleshed out into one of my favorite songs. I was actually very frustrated with music and what I was making, which is usually an ext
reme catalyst for making something great in my life. The visual is just something I've been enamored with for a long time, just a hand/arm hanging out a car window from the perspective of the driver, especially when viewed thru the side mirror.
It took a couple of long takes of me doing that driving and layered together, hand-wrote all the lyrics, and put it together, simple. I like to make visuals that aren't too crazy but can show off my ability to make something cool on my own that gives the song an image.

Your visual design for your branding, visuals, album art, etc., displays a unique graphic aesthetic. Tell us a bit about your editing style and why you choose to represent yourself visually this way.
YUNG SKRRT
My favorite idea in art is blowing something up to create something brand new. For a lot of the EP arts I find images related to the title of the release and warp/morph it until it becomes a completely new composition, slap my logo on it, and boom we got the EP art. Also, sometimes I'll just use ambient photos I have on my phone to make covers. A lot of the goofier stuff I make videos for so i just use a still from the video to create the cover.
When it comes to the visuals on stream, I use a lot of previous arts as layers to create background and depth, as well as some feedback techniques I learned from my friend DamnJuice, and handwritten logos and text I do with sharpies.

Creatively, what music sub-genres have inspired you recently?
YUNG SKRRT
Honestly, for the past 10 months have only been listening to my own music, so it's just a cycle of creative insulation that allows me to get better. This year I have been exposed to a lot more band music, guitars drums type music, so that might seep in a little more now, but before that the only other things I listened to was like Bladee, Burial, Yeat, Lunafreya (listen to Guilty Idol please), and Yung Skrrt.
I try not to be too inspired by others because I've built my taste to a maximum in my opinion.

Can you tell us about the remix you did to 'Mine' by Slayyyter back in 2019?
YUNG SKRRT
Yeah they asked me to do a remix and sent stems and I went crazy on the Acapella. Actually started as a beat for someone else but I repurposed it when that didn't happen.

What's next for Yung Skrrt?
YUNG SKRRT
Streaming three or more days a week making more music and gaming, sessions with friends and legends that result in more music, new EP this Friday (July 1), hopefully new album of all feature collabs including the 4 that have already been released, productions for legends and up and coming dope artists, performing with Deko, Yameii and friends on July 4th in LA sold out, top 10k in the world in Street Fighter V, more music, and the recognition worldwide that I've always been hoping for through means I haven't discovered yet.
