I was debating before this set whether to check out DJ Shadow + Armand Hammer (for the second time this year) or watch this Turnover set. It’s one of those decisions where I couldn’t really make a wrong decision - even though they’re at opposite ends of the music spectrum. Ultimately I decided to stay for the Turnover set.

A couple of my friends on Instagram had been posting about their projects over the years and my good friend Daniel had their 2017 release, ‘Good Nature’ in his apartment. I had checked out their breakout project, ‘Peripheral Vision,’ (2015) and had always been impressed with this coming of age work. It’s an indie classic and still resonates with a lot of people today.

This concert again took place at Stubbs BBQ, after downing about a pound and a half of meat I stood out and watched their set. This was one of the most stationary performances I’ve ever seen with each member slowly flowing around the stage. This slower approach complemented their music immeasurably with psychedelic VHS visuals dropped over the band members.

The track, ‘Hello Euphoria’ in particular had a particular resonance with the crowd having many fans jumping and shaking their hands. The lead singers aesthetic was particularly unique with a short mohawk and large trench coat - seeming like a spirit guide on the astral planes. All the band members had this aura of tranquility vibing and flowing with the music.

Even though the show's movement was slow the crowds energy was so hyped up. I’ve never seen such a slow format show where the crowd is so into the music - it really was a sight to behold. During the set the band thanked the audience multiple times for checking out the show and expressed their gratitude that they could do this for a career.

The vibes were really on point for this show and I would highly recommend you check out a turnover set.
