Tell us about Home is Where.

HOME IS WHERE

We are a band from Florida. We make songs for cows in the field by the highway. Everywhere you go it’s the same cows that are fenced in.

ETHEREAL.PRESS

Tell us about your most recent EP (2022) 'dissection lesson.'

HOME IS WHERE

It’s a split with a band called Record Setter. We have two songs & so do they. We met them & played a show together in July. They’re really nice. I had bad Italian food before the show & lost the stool I sat on the play my singing saw. I used that stool since the band started in 2017. Laura Jane Grace sat on that stool. It was Joe’s stool. A good stool.

What inspired the album art for the project?

HOME IS WHERE

Guts are cool & Connie is not only an amazing musician but a great artist.

ETHEREAL.PRESS

In the bio for the project, it states the following.

’We don't die.
We transcend.
This is literal.’

Can you elaborate on this phrase?

HOME IS WHERE

Dissection lesson was constructed with the unfiltered ideas & feelings on being transgender. On our album we put out last year, a lot of the songs are veiled by images & actions inspired by me realizing I’m Trans. On this I wanted to be blunt and direct. This is literally literal.

There is a difference between death by dying & death by being killed. We must transcend our own deaths no matter the cost. Both literally & figuratively. In 2021 more trans women were murdered than any other year on record. Many trans women are robbed of the chance of a death earned by life ending & are instead killed. We have & will continue to survive.

How did Jackie Shane & Terre Thaemlitz influence this work?

HOME IS WHERE

Jackie Shane was arguably the first trans woman in the history of recorded music. We wouldn’t be here without her.

Terre Thaemlitz has had a huge impact on how I think about music, gender, culture, politics. I got into DJ Sprinkles in high school and it resonated with me on a visceral level.

Tell us a bit about your (2021) release 'I Became Birds.’

HOME IS WHERE

It’s an album about a lot of things that took a long time to write and changed the course my life. I haven’t heard it in a long time but the songs are still fun to play. All the songs are like wet twigs.

ETHEREAL.PRESS

Can you tell us a bit about about the track titled, 'sewn together from the membrane of the great sea cucumber.'

HOME IS WHERE

It’s inspired by the thin line between innocence & naivety and searching hopelessly for hope in the hopelessness.

ETHEREAL.PRESS

Tell us about the background on your Bandcamp page with the assorted home(r) drawings.

HOME IS WHERE

My buddy and our almost exclusive visual artist made it. He goes by roofpuke. I made the joke when the band first started. I think I just asked him to make some weird Homer drawing and he couldn’t pick one so he just sent me an entire page of different Homers and I liked them all.

What's next for Home is Where?

HOME IS WHERE

LP2. Me and Tilley are almost done writing it. We record in November. It’s our idea of a pop record. It’s a concept record inspired by [redacted]. It’s the best album that doesn’t exist yet.
