Long-running band from Los Angeles.  Now in industrial form.

We just picked up DISCO4:: PART II on Vinyl.

Talk to us about DISCO4 :: PART II. How did the project come to be?

HEALTH

This is the sequel to DISCO4 :: PART I.  Because of continued COVID lockdowns we decided to extend the project.  Every album we've made has had a DISCO remix companion, now we've changed them from remix records into collaboration records.

The features of DISCO4 :: PART I/II are excellent! Including (but not limited to) JPEGMAFIA, Ada Rook, 100 Gecs, Backxwash, Soccer Mommy, Nine Inch Nails, Ekkstacy, and many, many more.

Blending so many different genres/influences to get a cohesive project has to be challenging. How is Health able to combine so many styles so effortlessly?

HEALTH

So one thing I'd like to make clear these are not features they are complete collabs.

We tried to combine both artists' sounds and in some cases the lion's share of writing is done by the collaborator, we just go with what works. I think that's also why they work, we don't want to get in the way of a good idea, and we don't have to make it about ourselves.

Across your discography, you post remixes / alternate parts to your releases. Why do you choose to remix / produce alternative parts to your projects?

HEALTH

Just a fun thing to do with music, it was borne out of the blog culture of the 00s but we've kept the idea going.

Talk to us about the visual design for your most recent DISCO4 releases. Why is the color red emphasized so heavily in the album's graphic design?

HEALTH

Good color is all.

What artists would you like to work with in the future?

HEALTH

They are legion.

Tell us about the music video, 'HEALTH x 100 gecs :: POWER FANTASY.'

Directed by Zev Deans. The Cacopogdemon runs down a tube of memes....like Sonic the Hedgehog.

In your discography, we see contributions to Grand Theft Auto / Max Payne 3 / along with 16 bit visuals on music video releases.

How do videogames influence your creative process?

HEALTH

I dunno if they directly influence the music, but I just really like videogames.  Also our fanbase is 98% gamer.

In the YouTube bio for your channel, it states,

'YOU WILL LOVE EACH OTHER.'

Can you elaborate on the significance of this phrase?

HEALTH

One of our brand slogans.  It's a line stolen from the vegan propaganda book DIET FOR A NEW AMERICA.

What's next for HEALTH?

HEALTH

We are hard at work on our new album coming out in 2023. And we are leaving for a European tour in one week, come see us.
