Tell us about WINDOWS96.
WINDOWS96
Windows96 is just me, Gavriel, it's the name I've released most music under. I made a soundcloud account called windows96 in 2014 or 2015 to release some vaporwave that isn't even there anymore I think. I moved on from that sound almost instantly but kept releasing under Windows96.

WINDOWS96
I can't think of anything to say about it.

What emotions do you hope listeners experience while listening to your music?
WINDOWS96
Most of my music is neither sad nor happy if I remember correctly... I hope they feel strange, unique and maybe distant things. And that they like some of it enough that listening to it will give them a comforting feeling. Nostalgic without nostalgia baiting ideally. But music for me is completely self-insert, I listen to music like it's mine, about me or for me, so whatever someone feels listening to my music, it's fine by me.
That's why I rather people just guess for themselves the lyrics for my songs with vocals, sometimes they ask.. but I've always enjoyed only understanding half of a songs' lyrics and filling in the gaps.

What initially got you into making music?
WINDOWS96
When I was maybe 11 my brother installed a DJ mixing program on the computer.
I got really hooked on it, I would spend hours mixing house tracks, but DJing is limited, I pushed it to the limit but I wanted to actually make my own music, so I looked up how online.

Talk to us a bit about your album art choices. Why do you choose to represent your music this way?
WINDOWS96
I make the artworks, I think it's important since I don't usually do videos or anything else for my releases, it really is just what I find pretty and what I come up with though. It has to be done by me, I never know what I want so I can't commission another artist. I like the experience of seeing an album artwork and listening to the music and having very little idea of where it all belongs and where it comes from, it's someone's very specific idea and vision. There's something here that is deliberately done.
I just don't know what it is, what artstyle is this?
That's what I want to make, a very specific thing, with a specific texture and aesthetic that you're not familiar with, but you like it, hopefully.

Tell us about your project, 'One Hundred Mornings.'
WINDOWS96
I don't remember that much about making the album.
It was the first album I made using those sounds and I was just playing around with them. I don't remember how I was feeling about it, I just made Caligula for the intro and that's it.
I'm happy people liked it. It has no narrative but, like all my albums, I did go for a concise and specific texture and aesthetic I had in mind. The album seems like it belongs somewhere, you just don't know where, what scene or genre from what time.
It's nostalgic and seems like it was made decades ago but nothing from decades ago sounds like it.
I like that about it.

Outside of music, what inspires you creatively?
WINDOWS96
I don't really know, I think everything.

What's next for Windows96?
WINDOWS96
I don't know for sure, but I work on music every day.
