Talk to us about your most recent full-length release, 'Apoptosis.'

JEAN

Actually, I wanna know what y’all think.

It's been about 2 years since it’s inception and so much has changed since it’s release. When I listen back, I feel different emotions in comparison to what I was feeling while we were creating it. Apoptosis is such a special record to all of us. It is our collective catharsis. I think abut the effect it had on the audience and how that effect has evolved over time. because everything does, right?

ETHEREAL.PRESS

Tell us a bit about some of the themes on the album.

JEAN

That’s more of Pablo’s department but I’m a very opinionated person.

So lemme tell you what i think.

This album holds themes of rebirth, love and acceptance. In life, we learn and experience these subjects as individuals and as a collective. During the times of solitude in 2020, we all had plenty of time to rethink these subjects for ourselves. Apoptosis might just be a collection of thoughts and feelings morphed into sound and words of what we were all feeling.

Can you elaborate on your Oct. 17th tweet that stated,

'Shadow Work.' - [TWEET LINK]

JEAN

Shadow work is v important work for understanding who you are. There’s the question ‘are humans born good or evil’

We all hold characteristics of both. Some lean towards ‘good’ and some lean towards ‘evil’. It’s important to understand how you lean with it to rock w it. 2 sides of the same coin, feel me?

PABLO

I was in my head about the connection to our “dark” side. I was curious about how to feel less shameful about our less admirable traits then I googled what shadow work meant.

ETHEREAL.PRESS

Many writers have labelled your music as 'psychedelic pop / neo-psychedelia,' can you talk about your band's psychedelic influences?

PABLO

We weren’t always into the psychedelic genre but I guess a lot of music can have psychedelic traits. The Doors for example were a huge influence on us.

ETHEREAL.PRESS

Talk to us about your 2013 release titled 'III.'

PABLO

It was a memorable time for us as a band. For the first time we approached the songwriting process by layering instruments as opposed to playing everything together as a full band first.

It lead to some very intimate songwriting that I don’t think could’ve happened otherwise.

ETHEREAL.PRESS

Can you tell us a bit about the creation of the track, 'American Spirits.'

PABLO

At first the track was completely different having almost a vampire weekend-esque vibe.

Then we brought it to rehearsal the day we were trying out a new guitarist, we were a three piece at the time, and it had so much more energy and life to it. We wrote the entire song that day. Unfortunately the guitarist didn’t make the cut but he smoked American spirits.

Hence the name.

ETHEREAL.PRESS

What creative elements are incorporated into your music outside of music?

ELI

We are inspired by travel, movies, art, exercising, and just life’s events that shape who we are and how we see the world.

ETHEREAL.PRESS

What's next for Inner Wave?

ELI

2023 we plan to release new music along with some collaborations with other artists.

Also, hoping to tour in new territories in South America, Asia, and Australia.
